Nothing looks as sleek and architectural as 2-inch wood blinds. Match the color of the slats to your floorboards, or order them in white. Choose black tapes (for drama) or white cords (which are barely visible) for a clean contemporary look. Avoid the lure of brightly colored tapes and cords; as little samples they may look cheerful, but they’ll honk for attention on your blinds.

Have the blinds mounted inside, not outside, the window frame. It requires a custom job, but adds tremendous polish to a room.
